In addition, Stephan and guitarist Kevin Cadogan formed the band “Third Eye Blind” in 1993. In 1997, the band released its debut self-titled album, which was certified Gold by RIANZ. The album was a commercial success, reaching the top of the Billboard charts in the United States. Following that, the band released several successful albums, eps, and singles, including Blue, Out of the Vein, Dopamine, Red Star, Thanks for Everything, and many more.

Besides his musical works, he is also known as a producer and actor. For his band “Third Eye Blind” he has produced several songs as well as several music artists. He co-produced Third Eye Blind’s self-titled debut studio album with Eric Valentine in 1997. The duo also produced The Braids’ debut studio album, Here We Come (1999).
Additionally, he has co-produced Blue (1999) and Out of the Vein (2003) with Arion Salazar and Third Eye Blind, and was the sole producer of Ursa Major (2009), Dopamine (2015), and We Are Drugs (2016). Stephan co-wrote four songs and produced Vanessa Carlton’s second studio album, Harmonium, in 2004.
He made his acting debut as Bradley, the lead singer of the fictional band Black Babylon, in the 2001 film “Rock Star.” He also appeared in the former Nickelodeon series “All That” and on the MTV candid camera show, “Punk’d” when Vanessa Carlton was a target of one of Ashton Kutcher’s practical jokes. He also played the lead in the independent thriller “Art of Revenge” in 2003.
