Born Terry Sanchez Wallace on the 23rd of March 1994, Tee Grizzley is an American rapper who became known for his song “First Day Out”, a song that he released literally on his first day out of prison. He recently made headlines when he was arrested for parole violation in August, although he would have been released from his parole on 18 October 2018.
Tee Grizzley’s Early Life
Grizzley was born in Detroit, Michigan, and was raised most of his young life by his grandmother, living in the Franklin Park neighborhood while his parents were in and out of prison – ultimately his mother was sentenced to 15 years jail for drug trafficking in 2011, while his father was murdered the following year.
Despite his dire circumstances, Grizzley was a good kid and tried to avoid the streets. He focused on his education, and resorted to music instead of joining gangs; his grandmother’s home was always filled with music, and he was blown away by how his uncles could go to a studio, record their music, and listen to it afterwards. In middle school he started creating his own music, and fell in love with rap – along with his friends JR, Po, and Lee, he formed the music group All Star Ball Hard, creating their own music and uploading it onto YouTube.
Later Grizzley attended Michigan State University, the first member of his family to attend college. He initially studied finance and accounting, but when he was broke robbed school dormitories to get by. In 2014, he and a friend stole a total of $20,000 worth of money and electronics, but after being apprehended were released pending investigation, and subsequently fled to Kentucky. However, they were arrested again after an attempted robbery at a jewelry store in Lexington, sentenced to nine months jail time, but while in prison, was sentenced to an additional 18 months to 15 years for his wrongdoings in Michigan, actually serving 18 months before being paroled.

Tee Grizzley’s Career
Grizzley’s career started while serving time, beginning taking care of himself by working out, such that his buff body later on gained him the name Tee Grizzley. He also started taking music seriously again, and began reflecting on and writing about his life.
In November 2016, right after leaving prison, he released his debut single “First Day Out,” uploading the song onto YouTube and immediately attracting millions of hits that led him to sign a contract with 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records. In February 2017 he released his second single – “Second Day Out” – and in April first mixtape, “My Moment.” His hit song catapulted him to success and certainly increased his net worth.

With the popularity of his song, Grizzley also gained fame thanks to the famous personalities who were impressed by his skills. Stars including Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Jay-Z all expressed their appreciation of Grizzley for his music.
