Who was Victor Steeman?

Victor Steeman was a Dutch motorbike rider who lived from 15 June 2000 to 11 October 2022. Until his demise following a collision at the Portimao 2022 World Superbike Championship during the 2022 Supersport 300 World Championship, he participated in the Supersport 300 World Championship.

His Career

Victor Steeman made his World Supersport 300 debut in 2018 as a replacement rider before competing for full-time in 2019. He finished fifth in the standings after securing two pole positions. He took a year off from the competition before returning in 2021, winning overall and finishing in the top 10.

He established himself as a championship contender in 2022 by winning at Assen, Most, Magny-Cours, and Barcelona after switching from KTM equipment to Kawasaki. He concluded the season as the season’s posthumous runner-up to Alvaro Diaz. Steeman’s death marks the second fatality in the World Supersport 300 in less than a year, following Dean Berta Vinales’ loss following a collision in 2021 at Jerez.

Victor Steeman Accident Injury: How Did It Happen?

The accident-related injuries suffered by Victor Steeman were the cause of their death. Due to his severe crash injuries, he passed away. The collision left him with polytrauma and head damage. The FIM, the body that regulates motorcycle racing, announced Victor’s demise.

According to the statement, the Dutch rider died on Tuesday night as a result of head injuries he sustained in a collision with Jose Luis Perez Gonzalez (Accolade Smrz Racing) in Turn 14 during the opening race on Saturday at the Portuguese track.

The incident caused the first World Superbike race of the day’s competition to be cut from 20 to 14 laps, which was immediately canceled and caused the rest of the day’s schedule to be delayed.

After arriving at the medical facility, the MTM Kawasaki motorcycle’s rider Steeman was helicopter to a hospital in the nearby city of Faro, where he tragically passed away a few days later.

The opening race on Saturday was reduced from 20 to 14 laps after the delay. Toprak Razgatlioglu won the competition. Rider for Pata Yamaha claimed to be “hoping for good news.” I say that this weekend we started strong and we are here again, he said in his opening statement. “I want to thank my team because they did a great job. The third-place finisher in the race, Jonathan Rea of Northern Ireland, expressed his sorrow for the injured rider. Rea also paid tribute to British Superbike rider Chrissy Rouse, who passed away last Thursday following an accident at Donington Park. Rea responded, “Whatever happened right now isn’t important, and I hope the kid who crashed earlier is okay.

Josh Close tweeted, “This has been a cruel, cruel week…Victor Steeman has died aged 22 after succumbing to injuries sustained in the Supersport 300 race at Portimao. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”

James Haydon tweeted, “What an awful week for our sport. So sorry to learn that Victor Steeman has passed away. It didn’t look good at the time but we were all hoping. All my thoughts go out to his family and friends. RIP Victor.”

Tom Gaymor tweeted, “It has been a tragic and heartbreaking two weeks for the motorcycle family, another young man went far too soon, RIP Victor Steeman.”
