On April 26, 1999, Jill Dando was shot and killed in entrance of her residence. George, who was residing in a ground-floor home in Crookham Road, Fulham, on the time of the murder, was detained on May 25, 2000, and charged on May 29, 2000.
He was found accountable by a vote of 10 to 1 and given a life sentence on July 2, 2001. Some commentators on the time thought this alternative was harmful.
