Chris Tucker has a long history of moving around, being born in Georgia, living in Florida, and currently residing in Los Angeles.

On August 31, 1971, in Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Louise, and Norris Tucker welcomed their sixth child, Christopher, into the world. His mother was a stay-at-home mom, and his father, Norris, was a businessman who also owned a janitorial service. The family belonged to the Church of God in Christ and were active Pentecostal believers.

Chris Tucker attended Columbia High School, where he learned how to capitalize on his comedy and earn a living. He started trying out for stand-up comedy every chance he got, but because that didn’t pay the bills, he had to work for his father and at a nearby Burger King, where he swept the restroom floors. Tucker moved bravely to Los Angeles, California, to pursue a career in stand-up comedy after graduating from high school.

The bold approach worked well because he could perform in several places before becoming a regular on Def Comedy Jam. After that, Tucker made an episode of the 1992 sitcom Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper before making his feature picture debut in House Party 3. (1994). In F. Gary Gray’s Friday, which also starred Ice Cube, Chris Tucker was cast as the chatty pot smoker Smokey. Due to the economic success of the role, Tucker’s career as a whole was propelled forward as more people became aware of his abilities. He later starred opposite Charlie Sheen in Money Talks and Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown in 1997. He also starred with Bruce Willis in the science fiction movie The Fifth Element.

Despite working with such illustrious personalities, Tucker had only partially made it to the A-list before he played chatty LAPD Detective James Carter in Rush Hour (1998). The movie was a massive hit with a global box office take of nearly $244 million. Due to this, the film’s creators decided to make two sequels, Rush Hour 2 (2001) and Rush Hour 3 (2007), both of which had Tucker reprising his role. However, the third entry was less financially successful than its predecessors.
Tucker took a sabbatical from acting and turned to stand-up comedy following the release of the last Rush Hour film, which he attributed to not receiving the proper scripts.

Following a rumored legal dispute with the Internal Revenue Service, which claimed Tucker owed $12 million in back taxes, the comedian got back to work, performing several stand-up shows before giving an outstanding performance in the 2012 movie Silver Linings Playbook, which also starred A-list actors Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, and Jennifer Lawrence.
