David Armstrong was an English football player who spent the majority of his career with Middlesbrough (from 1972 to 1981).
After leaving Middlesbrough in August 1981, he played for Southampton for an additional six seasons. Armstrong passed away on August 21, 2022. With AFC Bournemouth, he completed his league career in 1987–88.
He was a member of the Jack Charlton-coached Middlesbrough club of the 1970s, which won the Second Division championship and was a dependable Division One team for the majority of the decade.
He won his first England cap toward the end of his stint at Middlesbrough. At Ayresome Park, Armstrong was known for his incredible tenacity. For many years, he always wore the #11 jersey, and as a reward for this, he was given a testimonial at the young age of 25.
With 305 consecutive league games and 358 consecutive games across all competitions between March 1972 and August 1980, he holds the Boro record for the most consecutive appearances.

Nevertheless, he was let go from the squad in the 1986–1987 campaign after recording just one league goal in 22 appearances. He moved down a tier at the conclusion of that season to join AFC Bournemouth, where he played for one season before hanging up his boots.
He recorded 59 league goals in six seasons at Southampton.
Between 1980 and 1984, he made three appearances for the England international team and was named Southampton FC’s Player of the Season in 1983–84.
