These days, Howard Stern is one of the most sensitive interviewers on the radio. During Stern’s earlier days, however, the former shock jock host infamously seemed to enjoy offending people. As a result of Stern’s reputation, he was successful enough to become rich but he also got beaten up by a comedian’s boyfriend.

On the other hand, Dolly Parton has always been seen as one of the nicest people in the music business. Even though Parton has taken rumors of health issues and death hoaxes in stride, her kind nature didn’t stop her from getting furious at what Stern once did on his radio show.

This article will look at how Howard Stern made Dolly Parton so mad she almost sued him. Following that, the article will reveal how Stern reacted to Parton threatening to sue him.

Howard Stern Left Dolly Parton Feeling “Shocked, Hurt, And Humiliated”

As anyone who has followed Dolly Parton will know, the country music legend has led a fascinating life. As a result, it was very exciting when Parton released a memoir titled “My Life and Other Unfinished” in 2008. Unfortunately for Parton, however, Howard Stern used her memoir to make a comedy bit that left Parton deeply upset.

When Parton’s memoir was released, an audiobook version also came out. Like many celebrities, Parton went into a recording booth and read her memoir for the audiobook version of it.

Unfortunately for Parton, Howard Stern’s team used the recording of Parton’s audiobook to put words in her mouth. They did this by editing the audio of Parton to make it sound like she was saying horrible things.

To say that Parton was upset by the edited audio of her that was played on Stern’s radio show is a huge understatement. The usually unflappable Parton was so outraged by Stern’s bit that she put out a statement in which she threatened that she was considering suing Stern.

David Letterman Proposed To Dolly Parton During An Interview Despite Her Marriage To Carl Dean

Dolly Parton had been married for years but that didn’t stop David Letterman from asking her to marry him.

“If there was ever going to be a lawsuit, it’s going to be over this.”

Fortunately for Letterman, Parton seemingly never moved forward with a lawsuit against him. However, it is a huge deal that Parton went so far as to state she was considering suing in her statement.

When Parton released her aforementioned statement about Stern’s comedy bit, she didn’t just threaten to sue. Parton also revealed why she was considering taking Stern to court. As Parton explained in her statement, she was deeply hurt by what Stern’s team made it sound like she said.

“I have never been so shocked, hurt and humiliated in all my life. I cannot believe what Howard Stern has done to me. In a blue million years, I would never have such vulgar things come out of my mouth. They have done editing or some sort of trickery to make this horrible, horrible thing.”

Without knowing how far Stern’s comedy bit went, it may seem like Parton was wildly overreacting to the situation. However, with more information, it is easy to see why Parton would be profoundly upset by the idea anyone would think she said those things.

As of March 2024, a recording of Stern’s re-edited audio from Parton’s audiobook is available on YouTube under the title “Dolly Partons Audio Remixed”. However, the recording will offend a lot of listeners because of how extreme it is.

Stern’s bit is too extreme to be fully described here. What can be revealed is that Stern’s team made it sound like Parton uttered the N-word multiple times. The audio also includes insults directed at Kenny Rogers and Linda Ronstadt. In Rogers’ case, the audio makes it sound like Parton was claiming he did some of the worst things imaginable.
