Yellowstone is known for its family feuds, wild west antics and cowboy controversies — and the remaining season 5 episodes will continue to bring the drama.
The first half of Yellowstone’s final season finished airing in January 2023, and the show was subsequently in limbo. Paramount later confirmed in May 2023 that the rest of season 5 would be the last for the western drama and while the second part of the season was set to air in summer 2023, it was reported that production delays and alleged tension between leading man Kevin Costner and creator Taylor Sheridan pushed the show’s return back time and again.
“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie,” Costner’s attorney told Puck after the magazine published an exposé claiming his client was being difficult about the shooting plans. “It’s ridiculous — and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second.”
Months later, several cast members attended PaleyFest in Los Angeles and gave Us an update on whether they had resumed filming amid the headline-making delays.
“We haven’t started, no,” Wendy Moniz, who plays Governor Lynelle Perry, exclusively told Us in April 2023. “We know [Taylor] is writing and we’re looking forward to getting back.”
Yellowstone faced another delay with the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The season was pushed back again with a new premiere date for November 2024.

Bohen, who plays Ryan on the western drama, teased that the series’ finale would be one of the greatest of all time.
“The fans are going to get the [best] conclusion that could possibly be written,” Bohen told ET in April 2024. “Everything will land in a way that is perfectly set. A lot of shows just kind of finish … and they don’t satisfy you. This will be completed in a way that it will make sense.”
Bohen shared that he doesn’t know if “any show has finished this strongly ever” and promised that it is “worth the wait.”
“I don’t know that any show has finished this strongly ever,” he continued. “We’re expecting to have the best series finale in history. Overconfident maybe, but I think that’s what it’s going to be. We thank everyone for their patience.”
“I’m going to miss the challenge. Every single scene is literally the hardest scene I’ve ever had to do,” Bentley — who plays Jamie Dutton on the series — told Entertainment Tonight in June 2023, noting that the show will always be one of the “hardest things I’ve ever accomplished.”
The Hunger Games star continued: “So I will miss it, but I will also celebrate it being over.”
When it comes to the idea of Jamie appearing in a potential Yellowstone spinoff, Bentley said he would “be interested in being a part of that,” adding, “But if it’s the end of the road for Jamie, like I said, I’m ready to wrap him up and celebrate the attempts at accomplishing this character.”
“If it were up to me, I would want it to keep going, but I know that Taylor is writing the prequels and he has all these things that he’s doing and he wants to expand the whole thing,” the Coyote Ugly actress, who plays Summer, told Entertainment Tonight of the show’s end in May 2023. “So even though Yellowstone might be ending, there may be so many more things to come.”
Perabo went on to say that she stands “in solidarity” with the Writers Guild of America, which went on strike earlier in the month. “I’m really glad that they are fighting for fair wages and transparency and I hope that we can end this strike soon. I know Taylor Sheridan was writing before the strike was happening, and one of the fun things about working on a Sheridan show is that you really don’t know what’s gonna happen,” she said. “I have no idea what’s happening next and the whole thing left off on this cliffhanger, so I’m waiting myself.”
The Florida native, who plays Sarah Atwood, exclusively told Us in April 2023 what her dream scenario is for her character as the show comes to an end. “I’d like to be on the balcony of the Dutton Ranch. Drinking Beth’s drink!” she teased, noting “who cares” if Jamie (Bentley) is by her side.
Moniz revealed in April 2023 that she sees her character “running for president!” and breaking through the glass ceiling.
“She just keeps going up the ladder,” she exclusively told Us at PaleyFest. “I would want her to end up just killing it in her field like she has been. And I guess I just want her to continue to climb because that’s what she’s good at.”
