Focus Features has set a release date for Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders, a crime epic about a motorcycle club in the 1950s that stars Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy.

The New Regency film set in Chicago will hit theaters on June 21, 2024, after first bowing at Telluride. The movie was earlier set up at Disney’s 20th Century Studios while on the festival circuit, but was taken off the release schedule amid the Hollywood actors strike, with New Regency eventually taking the film to Focus Features.

Universal Pictures International will handle international distribution of the film, also written by Nichols.

The Bikeriders follows the evolution of a Midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals, from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, with the testosterone-fueled culture of the club threatening the original group’s unique way of life.

The Bikeriders is inspired by Danny Lyon’s 1968 book of the same name, a collection of photographs and anecdotes chronicling the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club.

Sarah Green and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones are producing through Tri-State, the company they share with Nichols, alongside New Regency. Fred Berger is executive producing.

New Regency’s most recent release is the sci-fi film The Creator, directed by Gareth Edwards, and its upcoming titles include the Amazon series based on the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs Smith, starring Danny Glover.

The Focus Features’ release slate includes Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers starring Paul Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, along with upcoming Drive-Away Dolls from Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke.
