Robbie Robertson earned a posthumous Oscar nomination for his score for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
The composer, songwriter and musician known for influential group the Band died Aug. 9 at age 80. His decades long collaboration with Scorsese began with 1978’s The Last Waltz, a concert film about the Band, and included the scores on films such as The King of Comedy, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Irishman and most recently, Killers of the Flower Moon.
For Apple’s Killers of the Flower Moon — which earned 10 Oscar nominations including best picture and director for Scorsese — Robertson additionally received posthumous BAFTA, Golden Globe and Critics Choice award nominations, and his work was recognized by numerous critics groups.
According to Apple, Robertson is the first indigenous person to be nominated in this category.
Nominees in this year’s competitive field for best score include composers John Williams for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Laura Karpman for American Fiction, Ludwig Göransson for Oppenheimer; and Jerskin Fendrix for Poor Things.
