The record-breaking Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film has seen advance global ticket sales cross the $100 million mark a week before the film opens in over 8,500 theaters worldwide, including in the U.S. market, on Oct. 13, AMC Theatres said on Thursday.
The concert pic is expected to open to $100 million to $125 million in North America.
The mega-exhibitor’s AMC Theatres Distribution division and its American and international partners Variance Films, Trafalgar Releasing, Cinepolis and Cineplex have reached agreements to show the Taylor Swift concert film in around 100 countries.
AMC said advance ticket sales are strong across the U.S. market, and especially for premium large-screen formats like Imax, Dolby Cinema, PRIME at AMC and other premium film venues. In North America, AMC Theatres Distribution has lined up screenings in 4,000 movie theaters.
Every AMC location in the U.S. will screen Eras Tour at 6 p.m. local time Oct. 13. Also showing the concert film in the U.S. is Cinemark and Regal Cinemas, while Cineplex will screen Eras Tour in Canada, and Cinepolis will do the same in Mexico.
Major exhibitors earlier forecast the film could ultimately gross $150 million or more in the domestic market. AMC Theatres plans a world-premiere screening in Los Angeles for the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film Oct. 11.
Swift’s Eras Tour has become a cultural phenomenon. With record demand for tickets and smashed world records in attendance and concert tour revenue, Swift offers fans a 44-song set list crossing the many eras and albums of the Midnights singer’s career.
Swift’s current tour kicked off in March of this year in Arizona before the show, which has attracted celebrity guests, wound its way across the U.S.
