A woman in her 40s says she is having sex like she is in her 20s again — thanks to ‘female Viagra’.

Roxanne Merchant, from Leeds, began hating sex after suffering symptoms of peri-menopause.

Desperate for an answer, Ms Merchant, 44, decided to give the £899 O-Shot a go.

Also known as a ‘vampire facial’ for the vagina, it involves injecting a woman’s own blood directly into her intimate area.

Ms Merchant, who works in marketing, noticed an improvement after just one shot.

Roxanne Merchant, 44 from Leeds, said said her sex life is as good as it was when she was 20. She describes the treatment as like 'the female version of Viagra'

She said: ‘I am having sex like I am 20 again and having to catch my breath after orgasms – even my partner was like “wow”.

‘[Prior to this], every time I had sex I needed to use lubricant more and more.

‘If I used anything like bath bombs, even organic ones, they made everything worse.

‘It got to the stage where I was having to wear granny pants so I wouldn’t be as irritated and sore but I [still] would notice small scratches or rips or tears down below because of the dryness.’

The injections are of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Plasma is dubbed ‘liquid gold’ for its yellow-ish colour and array of benefits. Platelets, meanwhile, are a type of blood cell vital for healing.

A similar treatment — for the face, to banish wrinkles — was popularised by the likes of Kim Kardashian and Gwyneth Paltrow.

NHS clinics already offer PRP injections to patients with injured knees or tendons to stimulate the healing process.

But private sites now use it as a libido-booster, too.

It’s said to enhance sensation, tighten vaginal laxity and help women experience mind-blowing orgasms.

Clinics also claim it stimulates collagen production, of which a natural decrease can lead to burning sensations, bleeding and pain during sex.

Ms Merchant came across the ‘O-Shot’ after searching for treatments for peri-menopause and knew some friends who had also had the procedure in the US.

Eventually she found Dr Farzana Khan, who was the only doctor in the north of England offering the treatment. She had her PRP extracted by RegenLab before it was inserted into her vagina.

She said: ‘I was a little nervous at first and didn’t know what to expect but the first part of the treatment was a consultation on what to expect.’

Ms Merchant claims the treatment was painless with ‘not even a mild discomfort’ and no downtime needed afterwards.

She added: ‘A course of three treatments was recommended to me and now the sensation and hydration is just amazing and this really changed my life.

‘It’s like the female version of Viagra.

‘Women should not suffer in silence and have to use things like lube when we know it’s sticky and just adds to the problem.

‘My confidence in the bedroom is through the roof because I don’t have to worry about how I am going to feel after sex and don’t have to rush to the bathroom to shower.

‘I have never been able to orgasm through my G-spot but I am experiencing that now, too.’

But it’s not just her sex life that’s been transformed by the treatment, so too has the appearance of her vagina. ‘It looks more rejuvenated and youthful,’ she added.

What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and what is the ‘O-shot’?

Injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is used for several medical procedures.

NHS clinics already offer PRP injections to patients with injured knees or tendons to stimulate the healing process. It’s also used in the ‘vampire facial’ to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Gynaecologists are now using the healing powers of PRP on vaginas.

Plasma is dubbed ‘liquid gold’ for its yellow-ish colour and array of benefits. Platelets, meanwhile, are a type of blood cell vital for healing.

For the treatment blood is taken and put into a centrifuge — a device that spins blood at high force to separate the blood and extract the two vital components, creating a potent formula that is then injected to ‘rejuvenate’ the desired location.

This therapy is also marketed as the ‘O-shot’.

For this samples of PRP are injected into the clitoris, labia and into the vaginal wall.

It’s said to enhance sensation, tighten vaginal laxity and help women experience mind-blowing orgasms.

Clinics also claim it stimulates collagen production, of which a natural decrease can lead to burning sensations, bleeding and pain during sex.
