Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has taken a major step towards full fitness at the club’s Carrington HQ.

The right-back has been missing since September 16 after sustaining a hamstring injury in the closing stages of United’s home loss to Brighton.

But Wan-Bissaka has now resumed training on the grass at the club’s training HQ and is closing in on a return to availability.

There is hope he could be available within the next 10 days should the final stages of his rehabilitation goes according to plan.

Ten Hag’s side face Manchester City in the derby on Sunday before welcoming Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

They travel to Fulham in the Premier League in the Premier League a week on Saturday.

Reintroducing the right-back in the Manchester derby may be deemed too risky for Wan-Bissaka given the intensity of the fixture.

Nevertheless, the full-back’s pending return will come as a boost to Erik ten Hag, who has been beset by defensive injury problems this season.

Regulars Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez are both long-term absentees. Raphael Varane, Sergio Reguilon, Jonny Evans, Tyrell Malacia and Wan-Bissaka have all spent spells on the sidelines due to injury so far this season.
