A major A road in Yorkshire has been shut in both directions following a serious car accident today.
The A1079 Hull Road between Dunnington and Grimston Bar Interchange for York is currently completely shut while emergency services deal with the scene. The crash has happened between Common Road and the A64.
North Yorkshire Policehave warned drivers the road will be shut for a number of hours. They have not disclosed details about the cars involved or if there have been any injuries and if so, how serious the injuries are.

In a brief statement issued by the force 54 minutes ago (as of 2.58pm today, June 23), a spokesperson said: “The A1079 is currently closed between Grimston Bar roundabout and Dunnington after a serious collision.
“The road is likely to stay closed for a number of hours while we deal with the incident. To minimise delays, please avoid the area if possible or use an alternative route.”
