NFL fans rejoice, Aaron Rodgers will finally take the field as a member of the New York Jets!

News broke of the team’s decision to start Rodgers in the third and final preseason showing on Sunday morning after the Jets13-6 loss to the Bucs in Week 2.

Rodgers will make his debut vs the Giants

The report, which was first revealed by Jets beat writer Bryan Costello, states that head coach Robert Saleh wanted to consult with the quarterback before making a final decision after the team’s loss.

Quarterback Zack Wilson had been taking the snaps with the team’s first offense and has had impressive outings that show maturity in the young player’s game.

Rodgers’ debut will be as visitors to intercity rivals New York Giants, whom the Jets share a stadium with so it is expected that the game will have a heightened atmosphere in anticipation of the regular season.

Talking about the possibility of maybe playing in the preseason Rodgers recently stated that he is open to it:

“I wouldn’t mind playing in the preseason… I wouldn’t mind if Robert said ‘Hey, we are going to go. Let’s do it.’ Most coaches have that fear where they want to get you to the Week 1 and not risk it, but I believe there is a chance for the last one,”Rodgers said during training camp.

The game is scheduled for Saturday, August 26 at 6 pm ET.

It is not clear how long Rodgers will be on the field, but teams usually decide the number of reps or minutes a starting quarterback gets depending on the performance and outcome of the first drive of the game.

Rodger’s last preseason game was in 2018

It is not usual to see the 39-year-old quarterback playing during the preseason. In fact, the last time Rodgers was on the field for a game that didn’t count was in 2018 for Green Bay.

That season turned out to be the worst for the Packers in 10 years, achieving only 6 wins to 9 losses. It would also be head coach Mike McCarthy’s last with the cheese heads.

To add a little bit of folklore to Rodgers’ debut, it should also be taken into account that the Jets are the subject of this year’s Hard Knocks docuseries, and seeing Rodgers on the field for the season finale would be a fine way to close the award-winning show.
