The legendary UCLA, one of the most successful universities in the NCAA (they have won it 11 times), announced the recruitment of Aday Mara from Casademont Zaragoza of the Endesa League.
The 2.20m 18-year-old Spanish center, one of the most promising young players in the world for his size, talent and competitiveness, will land on the Westwood campus where the likes of Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), Bill Walton, Kevin Love and Marques Johnson began to forge their respective interior legends.
UCLA is considered one of the best power forward factories in the history of basketball.
How UCLA coach Mick Cronin views Aday Mara
Mick Cronin, coach of the UCLA Bruins, who compete in the NCAA Pac-12 Conference, proudly announced the signing of Mara: “We are pleased to announce the addition of Aday to UCLA”.
The 11-time NCAA winning coach (1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975 and 1995) noted that “throughout this process with Mara, he and his family have been adamant about one thing: they want a great education for Aday and to see him mature at UCLA”.
“Aday has tremendous size and skill and has developed a great understanding of the game. He is a humble young man with great parents and is fortunate to be 6’11” and have so much talent and a solid work ethic,” Cronin said of Mara‘s basketball qualities.
The UCLA coach shared that “Aday has a wealth of FIBA basketball experience, having played within the Spanish Basketball Federation program while winning awards and championships at different levels. We can’t wait to have him here with us in Westwood.”
Aday Mara joins Jan Vide, the next generation scorer who left Madrid, at UCLA.
Mara is the seventh player to sign with UCLA this season.
Devin Williams, Brandon Williams, Sebastian Mack, Lazar Stefanovic, Ilane Fibleuil and Jan Vide (Real Madrid) are the Bruins‘ recruits who preceded the Spanish centre.
