Giants coach Adam Kingsley says Tom Green has rolled his ankle and the severity won’t be known until scans tomorrow.
He said the Swans were better in the wet.
“Their brand of wet weather footy was slightly better than us,” Kinglsey told Fox Footy.
“We need to tidy that up.
“We will just roll with what we know, we just need to tidy up our wet weather brand.”
Fox Footy has also shown some post-incident shots of Brown apologising to McCartin before he was helped off the ground.
But Brown will be in some trouble this week and won’t be playing for a few weeks after this one.
The rain has hit and so has Sydney’s midfield who took control of the game that term and have a nine-point lead despite heavy rain hitting the ground for much of the quarter.
More importantly, both sides have been forced to use their subs with Tom Green (ankle) and Tom McCartin (concussion) both subbed out. Anyone else named Tom better be looking over his shoulder given the fates of his name sakes so far today.
Callum M. Brown’s bump on McCartin is going to be played a lot this week and he is surely looking at a multi-week ban given what other players have copped and that McCartin was forced out of the game.
Joel Armatey won a free kick in the pocket and snapped his first goal of the day to put the Swans back in front.
It’s now a heavily contested game due to the heavy rain so every goal will be worth double from here.
Errol Gulden has snapped a goal of his own as well.
The Swans midfield are flying and they are right on top in his rain.
Swans 43, GWS 34 with five mins to go in Q2.
“There must be a Test match scheduled that we didn’t know about,” Fox Footy’s Mark Howard joked as fans sprinted from the covered areas after heavy rain hit the SCG.
In sad news, Fox Footy also reports Tom McCartin will be subbed out with concussion and sub Robbie Fox will come into the game.
Both teams have used their subs before half-time.
GWS 34, Swans 31 with eight mins to go in Q2.
Swans defender Tom McCartin is being treated for a bump on his eye on and a possible concussion after he was bumped over by Giants forward Callum M. Brown.
It was more careless than deliberate from Brown who ran into a contest and then turned his shoulder towards the player, he will surely come under the AFL match review microscope.
McCartin’s brother Paddy McCartin was forced to retire early due to severe concussions and Tom McCartin has missed time last year due to concussion.
“At a point in that [play], he chose to bump,” Fox Footy commentator David King said.
GWS 33, Swans 31 with 13 mins to go in Q2.
Fox Footy reports that Giants midfielder Tom Green is having a left ankle injury re-strapped but that has now changed to Green being subbed out of the game.
But now it appears their sub Harvey Thomas has got his shirt off and is preparing to enter the game.
As this happens, Swans forward Logan McDonald has booted a goal as has Will Hayward has booted another for the home side.
GWS 33, Swans 30 with 17 mins to go in Q2.
The Swans scored first but the Giants have taken charge of this match with five of the last six goals to finish the opening term.
Tom Green’s injury concern remains and issue for the Giants but they are fighting on without him while the Swans need to find more ways to exit their defence.
