The Demons were too good, too efficient and too determined for a young Hawthorn side at the MCG today claiming a comfortable win.

So many of the Demons stars were firing and their only disappointment will be the loss of key defenders Steven May (ribs) and Jake Lever (knee) who both sat out much of the second half.

The Hawks will rue a horror opening term and their inaccurate finishing.

The Demons have done their business for today and are trying to control the footy and the tempo for the final minutes.

But their workrate hasn’t dropped, Petracca won lots of claps and pats on the back for his chasing work a few minutes ago.

Demons 87, Hawks 37 with two mins to go.

Oliver, Petracca and Langdon all had hands on the footy as they surged forward and sent a long kick to Bayley Fritsch who flew high, bobbled the ball and then caught on the ground.

He went back and kicked his fourth goal.

Then straight from the bounce, Gawn hit down to Petracca who again found Fritsch. He has now kicked five goals.

Lever has ice on his right knee and his tracksuit top on as the evening has become a little cool.

All signs point to him being done for the day.

Petracca powered out of the centre bounce and sent a pass right onto the chest of Jacob van Rooyen who went back and kicked the goal.

The Demons have done this several times today. They look sensational when hitting full speed like that.

Mitch Lewis has kicked a goal to open the last term.

The Hawks forwards are trying to make the most of the absence of Melbourne’s defensive aces.

He tried to fire up the home fans but one would question if the Hawks have enough time to get back into this match.

The Demons have lost Steven May and may have Jake Lever out of the game as well but they are still well on top of those clash with the Hawks.

Lever is walking out to the huddle but has his knee heavily strapped and hasn’t come back on since feeling for his knee during the third term.

The effectiveness of the Demons has stood out as have Hawthorn’s struggles in that area.

This is the moment when Steven May suffered a suspected broken rib.

Hawks draftee Nick “Wizard” Watson has had a tough start to his career missing his first six shots at goal.

But he has finally kicked his first after a pass from Chol.

Watson celebrated energetically and his teammates mobbed around him. He has copped some criticism for his lack of production but he looks a confident character.
