Geelong’s stalwart defender Tom Stewart has been officially subbed out of the game with concussion.

He had an accidental clash of heads with Kai Lohmann.

Although it’s early, West Coast are eyeing their second win of the season after kicking seven goals to none against Fremantle.

The Dockers have been held to just three behinds, midway through the second quarter.

The Eagles’ Harley Reid and Jake Waterman both have two goals, while Jeremy McGovern and Elliot Yeo eight touches each.

Strange things can happen in derbies, but I don’t think many predicted this.

A disaster for Geelong at the end of that quarter, with star defender Tom Stewart coming off worst in an accidental clash of heads with Kai Lohmann.

The Lions have confirmed that Oscar McInerney has been subbed out after failing a concussion test.

Jarrod Lyons will take his place after half-time. Stewart will also be assessed at half-time.

The Cats kicked just two goals in the second quarter, the Lions one.

But two majors for Geelong, through Tyson Stengle and Ollie Henry, were enough to give the Cats their first lead of the day, right before they headed into half-time.

Tom Stewart has gone down to the rooms after hitting a knock to the face. We’ll wait for updates on that.

This is some old, classic wet weather footy. It’s tough out there.

Brisbane turned the ball over and Geelong pounced.

Max Holmes took off, found Tyson Stengle, with miles of space ahead of him, who ran straight into goal.

It cuts the margin back to within a goal.

Brisbane lead by 4.

The Lions are anxiously awaiting a head injury assessment to ruckman Oscar McInerney.

The bullocking McInerney has been one of the major reasons for his side’s early advantage, driving his side forward from the stoppages.

Brisbane have scored the only goal this second quarter. They lead by 9 points.

Fremantle’s Jye Amiss has come from the ground at Optus Stadium and is being assessed.

Barley able to stand up after a head knock, Michael Walters helped his teammate from the ground.

West Coast lead Fremantle by 10.

Lincoln McCarthy was a dominant player in the first quarter for the Brisbane Lions, with eight possessions and the opening goal of the match.

It’s worth reflecting on McCarthy’s journey since crossing from Geelong to the Lions in 2019.

McCarthy had played just 29 games in five injury-blighted seasons at the Cats, but since moving north he’s been a model of durability.

He’s given fantastic service to the Lions, adding a further 129 games in five completed seasons, missing barely a handful.

Dayne Zorko has kicked his second goal of the day to extend the Lions’ lead to 10-points during this second quarter.

He kicked it on an angle but it bounced through.

It’s likely to be a low-scoring affair with the downpour, meaning opportunities like that are going to matter, a lot.

Meanwhile at Optus Stadium, West Coast lead Fremantle by a goal, midway through the opening quarter.

It’s a good tussle at the Gabba with both the Lions and Cats having kicked just two goals a piece in the opening quarter.

Brisbane, however, also booted five behinds to Geelong’s one, to give them the lead.

The Lions are winning on also every area on the stat sheet, including the territory battle, which is vital in this wet weather footy, clearances and possessions.

The Cats are going to have to tidy some things up to keep this game from getting away from there.
