Then, deep into the fourth quarter and with Adelaide endeavoring to make inroads into Geelong’s 16-point buffer, the normally dead-eyed Fogarty, implausibly, missed an absolute sitter from point-blank range, which would have been his team-high third.

UNWANTED 19TH MAN: With just over seven minutes remaining in an action-packed third quarter, a mobile phone-wielding fan jumped the fence and ran into a congested Geelong forward line, filming the action.
Matt Crouch grabbed the intruder by the sleeve but he wriggled free and had too much pace for slow-moving security. Ben Keays took it upon himself to showcase his best Andrew Symonds imitation by dumping the attention-seeking fan, who was finally set upon by the army of yellow coats, who marched him off the field.

KEY STATS

Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield expects to have a scan in 24 to 48 hours after feeling for his hamstring late in tonight’s match.

He was subbed out with two minutes to go and he admits he doesn’t know if he just cramped in his hamstring or has suffered an injury.

“I’m not sure whether it’s cramp or whether it’s a little hammy,” Dangerfield told Channel Seven.

“I’ll get a scan. You usually wait 24 to 48 hours for it to settle down so I imagine it will be on Monday.”

When asked to guess about the injury, Dangerfield declined because he’s been wrong on other occasions.

“I’ve had cramps that I thought were injuries but came back clear and I’ve had injuries when I thought it was just cramp,” Dangerfield told Channel Seven.

“It feels minor but who knows.”

Tom Stewart has been praised by his teammates after starring in his 150th AFL game.

The mature-age recruit turned superstar defender had 15 intercept possessions among his 28 disposals.

Gryan Miers told Channel Seven: “It means so much to the player and the team to get those ones. Tom Stewart is the epitome of Geelong. We wanted to stand up for him as he does for us every week.”

Jeremy Cameron told Channel Seven: “He just said in amongst the group he dropped the car as well. He was on someone’s shoulders there. It felt like there was three or four of him out there tonight. It’s a wonderful thing to see, him going up and marking the footy then rebounding from there. He means so much to the group and he just inspires everyone.

Tom Hawkins to Channel Seven, he plays his 350th game next week: Tonight’s not about me. It’s about Tom Stewart. We make a big deal about milestones because they’re a big deal. They’re special to people. They’re special for the Stewart family, Tom and his wife and two kids. It’s one of the great parts of a team sport that you can individually get to celebrate and celebrate with teammates, celebrate with fans, and celebrate with the people that have helped you on the journey. So it will be fun. Looking forward to it. But really happy about tonight.

How does that win feel?

I’m really proud of the boys. We knew we were probably against it over here. Had some late outs we couldn’t control. So, so proud of this group and so thankful to the Geelong Football Club to be a part of it.

Special to have your kids here, your wife as well. So many people that you can celebrate who have been on this journey with you too?

Absolutely. There’s so many more back home that unfortunately couldn’t get over here, but yeah, I’m…yeah, getting a bit emotional now. Like, it’s something I really cherish, to be able to celebrate with my best mates and my kids and my wife and my mum tonight, my sister. I will really enjoy this one. They mean so much to me.

You’re an amazing story and an inspiration to so many mature-agers out there. There’s no right or wrong way to find yourself on an AFL list. So many people playing in country or regional leagues might have the dream, you’re a big inspiration to them?

Yeah, I suppose I’m one of the lucky ones, you know. I fell in Geelong’s lap and never had to leave home. The stars aligned if you will for me to take that spot that Boris left and make it my own. I had to hold up my end of the bargain but to be at a footy club like Geelong that allow me to be the best that I can, I am so grateful.

The Cats have started the season 2-0 and done so with a strong win against the Crows tonight.

Hawkins and Cameron were stellar up forward while Blicavs and Stewart are still match-winners as they showed tonight.

The Crows are 0-2 but have been right in both matches. I still think they have the quality to push for the finals but they will need to string together some wins if they want a chance at the finals.

Miers has bobbed up and snapped his third goal, a major that will make sure of the win.

Dangerfield is on the bench for the Cats and feeling a little bit for his hamstring while chatting with the physio.

Time will tell if he has an injury or is just a bit sore.

The Cats haven’t been on the attack much in the last term but they have defended doggedly for much of the quarter.

The margin is still 14 points with a two mins to go.

Darcy Fogarty won the bouncing footy and had an open goal in front him as he ran into the square.

But, amazingly, he managed to kick the ball into the post.

There are no words for it. It was as bad a miss as you will see in the AFL.
