While clarifying that the pressure she feels doesn’t stem from public expectations regarding her relationship with the former “GMA3” anchor, Robach pointed to the weight imposed by the repercussions of their affair on their careers.
Both Robach and Holmes, who were officially released from their roles at ABC in January 2023 due to their extramarital involvement, experienced the fallout of their actions as a professional setback.
Why did ABC fire the pair?
Robach, aged 50, emphasized the difficulty of navigating their relationship amid the professional turmoil and asserted her belief that love is not merely a fleeting emotion but a conscious choice.
“We’ve always worked together, but working with this kind of pressure over our heads is a whole other thing … that pressure is a lot,” Robach explained to the Amy and T.J. podcast.
“I know that I know you well enough and I’ve spent enough time with you and I knew how I felt.
“Love sometimes is a choice, when it’s hard, it’s not just a feeling. Lust is a feeling, but love is a choice I believe, and I have chosen to love you.”
Expressing her desire to return to the airwaves alongside Holmes, Robach candidly admitted that the potential failure of their relationship would be devastating to her, underscoring the significance of the choice she made in committing to their union.
The couple faced public scrutiny and a subsequent investigation by the network after photos of their extramarital affair surfaced. The fallout led to their departure from ABC in 2023, with the network deeming their relationship a “distraction.”
A year after the scandal broke, both Holmes and Robach addressed the allegations on their podcast, debunking the notion of infidelity and asserting that they were in the process of divorcing their respective spouses at the time.
In reflecting on the journey, Robach acknowledged the inherent challenges of relationships, describing them as messy and imperfect. Despite the tumultuous path, she asserted that she has never been happier, expressing gratitude for being with her best friend in the face of adversity.
