Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark‘s rivalry is well-documented, with shared history and moments that have kept fans engaged. Last year, Reese‘s viral celebration after her team’s victory over Clark‘s made headlines, sparking speculation about their relationship.
Despite attempts to downplay any animosity, it’s evident that they aren’t the closest of friends.
During Sunday’s National Championship game where Clark‘s Iowa faced South Carolina, tensions flared once again. Reese voiced complaints about the referees allegedly favoring Clark, and her emotions ran high as Iowa emerged victorious.
“i see how this game is about to go smh,” she wrote on Twitter.
A call with Raven Johnson
Adding fuel to the fire, Reese‘s FaceTime call with South Carolina’s Raven Johnson, where they reportedly mocked Clark’s performance, showcased the intensity of their rivalry.
“Don’t let her score. I was ready for the moment,” Johnson said.
“And I take defense very hard, like I take it to heart. I studied her moves, and I was ready. I had confidence this year. I was telling myself last year’s not going to happen again.”
After the game, Reese also congratulated South Carolina boss Dawn Staley for winning the Championship.
“I’m sooo happy for [Dawn Staley],” Reese wrote on X.
“As a black woman, I admire what you’ve done! You always checked on me & always loved me like your own!”
