The United States struggled to beat Germany 99-91 in Abu Dhabi in a preparation game for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, which will be held in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10, 2023.
The new Dream Team, which was down by 16 points in the second half, managed to come back to remain undefeated (5-0) in their warm-up games.

Steve Kerr crowns Anthony Edwards as “the guy”
The game also acted as an opportunity for head coach Steve Kerr to crown Anthony Edwards as the leader of the United States’ team.
“He’s, unquestionably, the guy,” Steve Kerr said of Edwards after the star’s big performance in the Germany win.
“You can see he knows it. But, now the team knows it and I think the fans see it.
“He genuinely believes he’s the best player in the gym every single night, and he’s such a dynamic young player. I think he’s taking a leap.”
Edwards has averaged 19.2 points on 51 percent percent shooting from the field in five warm-up games for the US but his display against Germany was the best yet.
“That was the best game I’ve had in a minute,” Edwards acknowledged.
Who is Anthony Edwards?
Anthony Edwards was the number one overall pick in the 2020 draft, where he was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves after just one season with the University of Georgia in the NCAA.
Edwards is just 22 years old, stands six-foot-nine and plays shooting guard, with his performances earning him the chance to play in the 2023 NBA All-Star game.
In his first three NBA seasons his averages have been 21.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
In July 2023, that form earned him a new mega-contract worth 260 million dollars over five seasons.

In ‘Hustle’, the Timberwolves star plays the role of Kermit Wilts, the great on-court rival of Bo Cruz (Juancho Hernangomez).
