Anthony Edwards led Team USA in scoring with 15 points Monday night against Puerto Rico in a scrimmage to prepare for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, but was evidently not entirely happy about his performance.
Cameron Johnson also tallied 15 points to tie Edwards for the top scorer spot, so maybe that had something to do with the latter mentioning postgame he could have played much better.
“I felt good, man,” Edwards said on a video posted to the NBA account on X. “I could have played a lot better, but we’ll be alright. We’ll figure it out.”
Edwards, 22, was walking down a hallway to the locker room as he answered the questions and greeted Draymond Green after giving his verdict of the first Team USA game ahead of the World Cup.
Green, 33, sat courtside with Kevin Durant to watch Edwards shine, though he wasn’t the only one to put on a show.
Austin Reaves gets praise from LeBron James
Austin Reaves also appeared in the NBA video, smiling while stating he’s just having fun out there.
Reaves, 25, did not reach double-digit scoring, but did enough to have Los Angeles Lakers teammate LeBron James call him “cold” on an X post.
Mikal Bridges was also among the night’s shining stars, scoring just one less point than leading scorers Edwards and Johnson, while Jaren Jackson Jr. put up 12 points. Brandon Ingram, Jalen Brunson and Bobby Portis Jr. each scored 11 to help Team USA defeat Puerto Rico 117-74.
Team USA had a slow start to the contest and went into halftime leading 50-43. They then held Puerto Rico to just 31 points in the entire second half to secure the commanding victory.
