Last Thursday, former NBA star Dwight Howard posted a video where he does not deny claims he is gay. Although his attorney did make some argument to say that is not the case, Dwight’s admission made the entire world of sports react in many different manners.
Perhaps the most disappointing reactions are the ones charged with homophobia that prove American society and sports still have a long way to accept all types of sexual orientations. This case spilled over to the NFL world as former WR Antonio Brown responded to Dwight Howard’s video to a homophobic tweet.
This hardly surprised anybody because Brown has always been a controversial figure in the NFL but his reaction echoes many who are criticizing Howard for this.

There have been many deplorable responses to Dwight Howard’s video but this one from a public figure has become viral. Antonio Brown didn’t only prove he has homophobic tendencies but also reminded the world at large he keeps displaying erratic behavior. Howard didn’t even respond to this tweet from Brown, it is highly unlikely he will at any point. After that video, Dwight probably feels he has said enough and will allow people to come up with their own conclusions. This tweet from Brown does a disservice to him because he exposes his own limitations as a human, especially for lacking sensitivity on a topic that is still taboo in American sports.
Dwight Howard has done what many American athletes with varied sexual orientations haven’t dared to do in a public manner. For that alone, he should be lauded as a brave individual. But instead, he is getting trolled and hate online such as Antoni Brown’s tweet. This goes to show America is still decades away from accepting other people’s preferences. Nobody is expecting anything different from Brown but other people have no excuse for bullying him.
