Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is trying to change the feeling around the team following the departure of Tom Brady and the potentially bad season that is on the horizon.
Many have written the Bucs off before the season has even properly begun now that they do not have legendary quarterback Brady on the books after his retirement.
Mayfield is taking issue with that viewpoint and he is the man that is tasked with replacing Brady as the quarterback.
Mayfield’s positive outlook
For that reason, he is trying to push a very positive spin on proceedings as the matches get closer and closer.
“The key pieces that were a huge part of that Super Bowl run, and their success recently, they’re all still here,” Mayfield told the Tampa Bay Times.
“It’s a different hunger because, unfortunately, the narrative is that Tom‘s gone and we suck.
“That’s fortunate for us, because that makes our guys have a different type of motivation they might have not had recently. It puts them into a different level of competition and trying to prove that our locker room is more than capable of keeping that success.”
The season gets underway for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday when they take on the Minnesota Vikings away from home.
There are many that think Mayfield has a point about feeling positive. Many key figures from the team that won the Super Bowl in 2021, such as Devin White, Antoine Winfield Jr., and Shaquil Barrett are still on the team and they could still hold onto wide receiver Mike Evans.
