Two people have been killed and seven seriously injured in a horrific Saturday afternoon crash.
The crash happened at about 2pm at the Barugh Green crossroad junction in Barnsley. Police said it involved multiple vehicles and officers as well as fire crews were at the scene.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed two people have died and seven have been taken to hospital. The seven have all suffered serious injuries but they are not thought to be life threatening.

Police said the junction – which includes Cawthorne Road, Barugh Green Road and High Common Road – is closed and is expected to remain shut for some time. They are advising people to avoid the area and plan alternative routes.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 2pm today (Saturday 23 March) to reports of a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles, at the Barugh Green crossroad junction in Barnsley. Officers are currently attending alongside the fire and ambulance services.
“Two people have sadly been pronounced dead at the scene. A further seven people are receiving hospital treatment, where their injuries are serious, but not thought to be life-threatening.”
