The Indianapolis Colts are in the midst of a conundrum with Jonathan Taylor. The disgruntled running back wants out of Indy, as the team is unwilling to pay him what he wants. Despite the team not willing to pay up, they still expect a hefty haul by way of a trade.
That is making things difficult in terms of finding the right trade partner, but Taylor certainly has plenty of suitors.
A report from The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson has the Miami Dolphins squarely in the hunt for Taylor, but he also dropped the names of two other potential teams: the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer also mentioned Miami and Chicago as the most likely destinations.
The Chicago Bears
The Bears make some sense because they just let David Montgomery go in free agency and want to get their young quarterback, Justin Fields, as many weapons as possible. But Khalil Herbert proved to be a very capable back last year and they drafted promising rookie Roschon Johnson in the 4th round. Still, neither of those players have the same talent Taylor does.
The Miami Dolphins
As has been mentioned plenty, the Dolphins wanted to bring Dalvin Cook to Miami, but the two sides never agreed on the right compensation. They then drafted De’Von Achane in the 3rd round, so they clearly believe they needed running back help coming into the offseason. Adding an All-Pro running back to an offense featuring electric wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle would be incredible to watch.
The Denver Broncos
The Broncos being named is surprising. Third-year running back Javonte Williams is extremely talented, but he is coming off of a devastating knee injury and the team doesn’t know if he will have the same explosiveness as before. New head coach Sean Payton also didn’t draft Williams. The team brought in veteran Samaje Perine to hold things over until Williams regains full health. Taylor could be the centerpiece of Payton’s offense, just as Alvin Kamara was for years in New Orleans.
