Nick Marsman, the goalkeeper who said Inter Miami was not ready to receive a player like Lionel Messi, is no longer with the MLS club owned by David Beckham.
The club exercised its right to buy out the Dutch goalkeeper’s contract, who is now a free agent at 32 years of age. League rules only allow teams to rip up one single player’s deal, so his scathing comments clearly did not sit well with the franchise.

“I personally think that this club is not ready for Messi’s arrival,” Marsman told ESPN in June. “We have a temporary stadium, people can just walk on the pitch, there are no gates. “We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren’t ready.”
Messi, meanwhile, continues to shine for the club, leading them to Leagues Cup quarter-finals with three consecutive braces. He has scored seven goals in four appearances for the MLS club.
“Inter Miami CF announced today that it has exercised its Salary Budget Charge buyout on goalkeeper Nick Marsman’s Major League Soccer (MLS) contract,” reads a team statement.

Marsman’s comments have proven to be completely false since Inter Miami has handled Messi’s arrival admirably.
Messi’s presence has packed the team’s stadium and tickets to his first away game sold out in minutes.

He has been playing exceptionally well, most recently scoring four goals in the 4-4 draw against FC Dallas.
Messi’s 85th minute free kick score tied the game and Miami went on to eliminate Dallas from the Leagues Cup in a penalty shootout.
