Bengals running back Joe Mixon has been cleared of an aggravated menacing charge following an alleged incident in downtown Cincinnati. The Bengals wasted no time expressing their relief over the trial’s outcome, emphasizing Mixon’s significance to the team and his standing among fans and peers.

In a statement released shortly after the verdict, the Bengals highlighted Mixon’s contributions: “Joe Mixon has been an integral part of the Cincinnati Bengals since he joined the organization in 2017. He has consistently performed as a top-tier running back, achieving multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons, and his camaraderie among teammates has been exceptional.

“Over the past seven years, Joe has also actively engaged with the community, earning popularity among numerous fans with his infectious energy and unwavering smile. With this matter now resolved, the organization eagerly anticipates a thrilling season ahead, with Joe playing a pivotal role on the football team.”

The incident in question revolved around allegations that Mixon, 27, brandished a firearm at a woman during a traffic dispute in February, just a day after the Bengals faced the Bills in the playoffs. After a four-day trial this week, the former Pro Bowler was acquitted of the charges. Mixon’s agent, Peter Schaffer, released his own statement praising the legal process and asserting Mixon’s innocence.

Mixon is fully focused on football

“Considering the facts and our familiarity with Joe as an individual, along with our unwavering faith in the justice system’s ability to uncover the truth, we never doubted the eventual outcome,” Schaffer remarked, as reported by NFL Media. “This verdict vindicates Joe’s character, which is the most important aspect. Now it’s back to focusing on the game of football.”

This isn’t the first instance where Mixon’s name has been linked to off-field incidents. He previously faced an investigation for a shooting incident at his residence in March, although no charges were filed. Additionally, he was recently implicated in a civil lawsuit for his alleged involvement in providing a weapon used in a separate shooting within his neighborhood. Moreover, he reached a settlement related to a misdemeanor assault charge during his college days at Oklahoma.
