The Kansas City Chiefs called off their practice session on Thursday following a medical emergency involving defensive end BJ Thompson. During a special teams meeting, Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest.

He was quickly transported to the hospital by ambulance and is reported to be in stable condition. The Chiefs immediately decided to cancel both the practice and media availability for the remainder of the day.

BJ is still unconscious at this point, but he’s stable and vitals are good,” his agent, Chris Turnage, said. “His family asks for your continued prayers.”

Minicamp to being soon

This week marks the end of the Chiefs‘ OTA workouts. The team’s mandatory minicamp is scheduled to begin on June 11, with the official training camp starting in July.

“The Chiefs canceled all team activities today after a backup defensive lineman had a seizure in a special teams meeting and went into cardiac arrest, per sources,” Tom Pelissero reported on X.

“The team’s medical staff worked quickly, an ambulance was called and the player is currently in stable condition.”

Thompson, who was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth round last year from Stephen F. Austin and Baylor, played primarily on special teams last season, appearing in one game and recording two tackles.
