GOAL BRIGHTON (1-0) Adingra

It’s sloppy from Liverpool but Brighton won’t care as Van Dijk’s pass into Mac Allister puts the midfielder under pressure who loses it and Adingra finishes acutely from outside the box with Alisson out of position.

13:18, 17

Mitoma brought down by Mac Allister (0-0)

The former Brighton star brings down his old team-mate after Mitoma found space down the wing and looked to break. Mac Allister commits what pundits refer to as a ‘professional foul’ but no card is given.

Brighton show signs of intent with pedro breaking down the flank and cutting into the box before his cross is dealt with by Matip. Brighton looking to breakthrough.

13:13, 11

Smart defending by Veltman (0-0)

Veltman has to be alert to the danger of Diaz and Salah as the Egyptian looks to try and feed the winger in but is denied by some good positioning by the Brighton full-back. Veltman intercepts and then wins a foul to relieve pressure.

March brings down Nunez (0-0)

Great play fromNunez as he carries the ball deep into the Brighton half, first drifting past Baleba who seemed more bothered about the man than the ball and then being bodychecked by March. Silly foul. Alexander-Arnold fires the free-kick into the wall.

Liverpool defend nervously (0-0)

Brighton could have found themselves in front as they are presented with back-to-back chances from consecutive corners.

March is denied getting a shot off by Van Dijk first time before Dunk then puts it on a plate for someone to attack. Van Dijk has to clear the danger.

Brighton free-kick wins a corner (0-0)

Diaz commits a foul on the halfway line and Brighton hoof a free-kick up into the Liverpool box that is headed behind for a corner.

Brighton look to control early pace (0-0)

It’s a confident start from the hosts as they mix the ball about in defence before trying to prod holes in midfield. Liverpool might look to play on the counter-attack today.

KICK OFF: Underway at the Amex (0-0)

De Zerbi explains team changes

The Brighton boss has been explaining his team selection pre-match and claims the packed schedule of balancing league, cup and European football has been tough on his squad.

‘I make the choosing on the moment and the game, but the schedule has been tough with the league games, Chelsea in the cup, two European games and now Liverpool it’s a big challenge,’ De Zerbi told Sky Sports.

Premier League state of play

The top-flight table could end up looking a whole lot different by the end of the day and we will do our best to keep you updated as the goals go in around the grounds.

Tottenham are currently the surprise Premier League leaders but could find themselves third this evening depending on results.

Man City travel to the Emirates this afternoon with a win taking them back to the top, while three points for Arsenal would take them level on points with Spurs and possibly to top spot depending on goal difference.

If Liverpool win today they will take second place momentarily before the evening clash in London. Meanwhile, Brighton can move level on 18 points with City if they win.

Klopp insists there is ‘no time to waste’

The Liverpool boss has told his team they have to bounce back from defeat against Tottenham today and hailed De Zerbi for making so many changes to his starting team.

Speaking to Sky Sports pre-match, Klopp said: ‘Super important to bounce back, there’s no time to waste. Tough opponent, a lot of changes – he’s so brave it’s unbelievable.

‘You look at the line-up you don’t exactly no who will play and where. That’s a real quality of him and Brighton. We’re prepared as much as we can, well-recovered and ready to go.’

What Brighton team will turn up today?

Liverpool have beaten Newcastle, lost to Tottenham, drawn with Chelsea already this season, today they arrive at Brighton probably wondering what team they will come up against.

Six changes have been made by De Zerbi and that only adds to the mystery of what type of Brighton outfit we will see today. Will it be the stars that thrashed Man United and Newcastle 3-1, or will there be another disappointing 6-1 defeat?

Brighton have the ability to stun top teams, however, they have also shown they are susceptible to heavy losses. That being said, it would be a huge surprise to see the Seagulls slip up twice in such fashion.

Jurgen Klopp insists he’s ‘completely over’ VAR howler

Jurgen Klopp has insisted he is ‘completely over’ VAR’s terrible blunder in his side’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham.

Luis Diaz‘s goal was wrongly disallowed on Saturday afternoon when referee Simon Hooper and the VAR room miscommunicated the outcome of an offside call.

Alexis Mac Allister celebrated upon his arrival

We said he would get a good reception and Alexis Mac Allister has been given exactly that as he walks into the Amex to cheers from both sets of supporters.

The Argentinian has a wry smile on his face as he acknowledges the love for him that still lingers at the club but will be hoping to dash the hosts’ hopes once we get underway.

BRIGHTON TEAM NEWS

De Zerbi rings the changes with six players starting that harrowing 6-1 defeat against Aston Villa last weekend shunted out the starting team for today’s clash.

Out – Steele, Estupinan, Webster, Hinshelwood, Gilmour, Welbeck.

LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes three changes to his team that lost to Tottenham last weekend with his hand forced through suspension and injury.

Curtis Jones is serving the first game of a three-match ban after being sent off in London, Cody Gakpo is injured and Joe Gomez drops to the bench.

In comes Harvey Elliott, Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Nunez.

Fortune favours the…hosts

Liverpool make the trip to Brighton off the back of a strong start to the new Premier League season and will be high on confidence, despite their controversial defeat against Spurs last time out.

Unfortunately for Reds supporters, Brighton have been one of their bogey teams in recent times with Liverpool last beating today’s opponents in March last year when Luis Diaz and Mo Salah were both on the scoresheet.

Since then Liverpool have drawn once and lost twice against Brighton, with Roberto de Zerbi’s side most recently winning 2-1 in a January FA Cup tie.

Alexis Mac Allister set to return to his old stomping ground

The Argentinian was a star at Brighton and is now returning to the coastal club for the first time since completing his £35m summer move to Liverpool.

He’s slotted into Jurgen Klopp’s midfield with ease and looks like a bargain signing as the Reds overhauled their midfield with Dominik Szoboszlai finding form as Mac Allister’s midfield partner.

Expect Brighton fans to give their former player a good reception before kick-off.
