‘Brought sunshine to my life’: Bus crash victim Tia Cameron remembered at funeral

“You brought sunshine to my life and looking around here today, it’s quite clear you did the same for many other people,” aunt Karma Te Whaiti told the service through tears.

“Your caring and giving nature, your protectiveness, and the way you love, were some of your most admirable qualities.

“You were always so driven to strive to be the best. Although, not better in the kitchen, or better at cleaning.

“You strived to one day to be someone incredibly successful, and you were willing to do whatever it took to get there.”

Cameron had been doing so well in her job that she loved and enjoyed, her aunt said.

“You had plans to study and further your education, to better yourself, and you had plans to travel. You always spoke of being a mum, even from a very young age,” she said.

“I knew that one day that you would make an incredible mother.

“I’m so very sorry that this has been stripped away from you but I promise to keep your memory alive.”

Tributes from Cameron’s cousins, who saw her like a sister, and her boyfriend, grandmother, and great-grandfather were also read to the crowd.

An investigation into what caused the crash remains ongoing.

Earlier this week, the union representing the 70-year-old driver of the bus expressed condolences to her loved ones, and pledged its co-operation with the investigation into her death.

Several other bus drivers witnessed the incident and were being counselled.

The day after the crash, the Brisbane City Council said the bus’ brakes had been tested last month, and the driver was “very experienced”, and had worked in the role for decades.
