Nottingham Forest will aim to officially secure their Premier League status for 2024/25 when they travel to already-relegated Burnley on the final day of the season.

The Clarets’ demotion back to the Championship was confirmed by their 2-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur last week, with Luton Town likely to join them alongside Sheffield United in dropping down a division.

Forest need only to avoid defeat at Turf Moor to guarantee their survival, but their stay in the top flight will likely continue in the event of a loss unless a gargantuan swing in goal difference occurs.

Here’s 90min’s preview of the game.

Burnley have little to play for but manager Vincent Kompany will still want his side to finish the campaign on a positive note, having managed only five Premier League wins on their return to the top flight.

The former Manchester City defender is without Ameen Al-Dakhil, Jordan Beyer, Aaron Ramsey and Nathan Redmond, while Luca Koleosho’s availability is touch and go.

Burnley predicted lineup vs Nottingham Forest (4-4-2): Muric; Assignon, O’Shea, Esteve, Taylor; Bruun Larsen, Cullen, Berge, Vitinho; Fofana, Foster.

Nuno Espirito Santo has few injuries to concern himself with as Forest go about securing the one point they need to guarantee their Premier League status.

Neco Williams hasn’t played since the 2-0 defeat at Man City at the end of April, with Gonzalo Montiel filling in during the two matches since.

There’s also a return to Turf Moor for Chris Wood, who scored 53 goals in 165 appearances for the Clarets in four-and-a-half seasons with the club.

Nottingham Forest predicted lineup vs Burnley (4-2-3-1): Sels; Montiel, Boly, Murillo, Aina; Yates, Danilo; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood.

There could be a healthy dose of final-day goal madness on Sunday and this match may prove no different.

Burnley’s own fate was sealed by the loss at Spurs last weekend but a response will be demanded by the home crowd and they could hit the back of the net a few times.

However, Forest will be driven on by their own ambition of avoiding the drop – as unlikely as it is to happen even with defeat here – and in-form attackers Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi could power them to victory.

Prediction: Burnley 2-3 Nottingham Forest
