WNBA star Caitlin Clark has finally revealed the truth about how she reacted to Angel Reese‘s viral celebration in the 2023 championship game.

In their college basketball days, Clark dominated for the Iowa Hawkeyes and broke the NCAA all-time points scoring record in her senior year. Reese, meanwhile, belonged to the LSU Tigers – the top program in the division.

Caitlin Clark shows her fury and passion in ESPN docu-series trailer

In the Tigers‘ 102-85 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes, Reese memorably performed WWE legend John Cena‘s ‘U Can’t See Me’ gesture in front of Clark.

That was seen as a sign of mocking Clark, who had done the same move in a game against Louisville. Additionally, Reese looked at her rival and pointed at her ring finger late in the fourth quarter.

And the 22-year-old, one of three players followed by ESPN in their recently-released ‘Full Court Press’ docuseries, was disappointed with the reaction to her celebration.

“That’s the only thing people wanted to talk about when we just went on this magical run and united so many people, and that was frustrating to me,” Clark said.

Iowa coach Lisa Bluder also accused the media of stirring up “racial things”, and praised her former star athlete for refusing to take the bait.

“The media was trying to create a circus out of racial things, out of trying to make hatred come up, and she [Clark] just wouldn’t let it happen,” Bluder added.

When will Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese face each other?

Clark would get her revenge when they met each other in the Elite Eight in 2024, as the guard notched 41 points on their way to a 94-87 win over LSU, with Reese only scoring 17 for her team.

Both have since gone on to secure high-profile moves to the WNBA with Clark – the No.1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft – signing with Indiana Fever. Reese joined the likes of Kamilla Cardoso in heading to Chicago Sky.

The pair are set to make their debuts next week as the WNBA season begins – and when they do eventually reunite, it will be interesting to see if Reese repeats her celebration.

They are due to meet for the first time with their respective new teams on June 1, with further meetings on June 16 and June 23.
