There is still a chance that Caitlin Clark‘s whirlwind year in basketball will include a trip to Paris to represent the United States of America at the Olympics.
There was something of a shock on Saturday as she was left out of the 12-woman roster by USA Basketball for the Olympics.

All hope is not lost, though, as Clark finds herself at the top of the alternates list along with Connecticut Sun‘s Brionna Jones. That means if there is an injury or personal issue for one of the 12 chosen players, they will be first to get the call, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The roster has not actually been made official yet but there are multiple reliable sources reporting the leaked squad which is: Diana Taurasi (Mercury), A’ja Wilson (Aces), Breanna Stewart (Liberty), Alyssa Thomas (Sun), Jewell Loyd (Storm), Napheesa Collier (Lynx), Kelsey Plum (Aces), Jackie Young (Aces), Brittney Griner (Mercury), Kahleah Copper (Mercury), Sabrina Ionescu (Liberty), and Chelsea Gray (Aces).
Clark currently expected to miss out
Clark, who became the NCAA’s Division I all-time leading scorer for men and women during her senior year at Iowa, was the only collegiate athlete invited to the Team USA 14-player training camp in April.
She had to miss the final camp before the Olympics due to being in the NCAA final four with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
“I didn’t have time to go to a training camp and obviously it was a quick turnaround to come here [to Indiana],” Clark said at the time.
“So it’s good motivation for us and we all know how talented that team is. I think it would be a great opportunity, a lot of ‘ifs,” she said, smiling.
“My main focus is on the Fever, like that’s what it is. If USA Basketball needs something, you know, I have a great relationship with them but the 12 they have selected are really. really great players.”
