Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazilian captain Marquinhos appeared before the media in Japan on Sunday as the club continues preparing for the 2023/24 season.
Despite being accompanied by new manager Luis Enrique and his new teammates Lucas Hernandez and Marco Asensio, the captain couldn’t avoid talking about the topic of the moment: the future of Kylian Mbappe.
Last Friday, the Parisian club announced the names called up for the training camp in the Asian country, in which the absence of the French star was noticeable as his contract issue drags on.
When asked about his teammate, the Brazilian defender said: “Even in Japan, you are there with your questions. It’s complicated. He’s an exceptional player, but it’s a decision that goes beyond us players.
“It’s a question for the management. We always want to have the great players on our side, I hope we reach a solution so that he can come back and help us this season.”
Mbappe: contract with PSG
The world champion with France at Russia 2018 has a contract with PSG until June 30, 2024. If he does not renew this summer (at least until 2025), within a year he can leave “for free” and negotiate a juicy signing bonus with the team that suits him best.
For his part, the team’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, will wait until July 31 to wait for the decision of the player, who, if he does not renew, will be put on the market with a value of between 160 and 180 million euros.
Mbappe: numbers with PSG
Since his arrival at the Parc des Princes in 2017, Mbappe has scored 212 goals (all-time leading scorer) and provided 98 assists in 260 matches played in six seasons.
He has won the Ligue 1 title five times, the Coupe de France three times and the Coupe de la Ligue twice.
In Europe, he was runner-up in the Champions League in the 2019-2020 campaign, losing in the final 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
