The girlfriend of a man charged over the deaths of two Australian brothers in Mexico has told a court her boyfriend confessed to killing “three gringos” after returning home from their campsite.
Jesus Geraldo, known as El Kekas, faced kidnapping charges on Wednesday in Mexico, accused of killing Callum Robinson, 33, his brother Jake, 30 and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30.
His girlfriend, Ari Gisel, was arrested by police investigating the murders and was found in possession of amphetamines.
In court, Gisel said she’d told police her boyfriend had confessed he’d “f—d up three gringos” and stolen the tyres from their ute.
Gisel said El Kekas fitted her car with the stolen tyres on April 28, the morning after the alleged murders.
The accused man’s girlfriend told a court she had fled the home to her mother’s house. Gisel said she was the victim of domestic violence and was worried about the safety of her four-year-old son, Nine reports.
El Kekas has been charged with forced kidnapping and has been held in custody awaiting his trial. It is expected the charges could still be upgraded to murder.
Australian Federal Police are working with Mexican authorities to bring justice for the Robinson brothers and Rhoad, who were travelling in the Mexican state of Baja California when they failed to check into their accommodation.
