The legendary Mexican boxer, Canelo Alvarez, has come out in support of Ryan Garcia by insisting that the 25-year-old is “a good kid”, following his unusual online behaviour throughout the early stage of the year that has left fans worried for his mental health.
Garcia is set to fight Devin Haney on April 20 for the WBC super-lightweight championship, but he has attracted attention for all of the wrong reasons for his social media activity that have seen his accounts claim he has been killed, himself claim he was raped as a child and that Elon Musk is the antichrist.

It’s led to the New York State Athletic Commission to insist he undergoes a medical and psychological examination before they permit him to enter the ring against the 31-0-0 fighter with 15 knockouts to his name, particularly as he threatened to bite Haney‘s ear off.
In response, Garcia threatened to sue them citing attempts to supress his freedom of speech, but Canelo has called on everyone to give the ex-interim lightweight champion a break from the chatter.
“You know, he’s a good kid and we don’t need to judge him,” Canelo told TMZ Sports. “He’s a good kid.
“This is the moment when you need to support your friends and, I know, we have a lot of issues before, but I don’t care [about the issues].”
When is Garcia vs Haney and where to watch?
As aforementioned, the fight will take place on Saturday, April 20 and it will be held at the Brooklyn Center in New York.
It was originally scheduled to take place at the glamourous MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada for the WBC’s super-lightweight belt, a venue that has hosted many box office classics over the years.
But the walls around the fighters doesn’t make the fight and this bout promises to be iconic if Garcia is mentally sound, with fans being able to watch it in the USA via DAZN, live.
Haney, nicknamed The Dream, holds a perfect record in 31 pro fights whilst Garcia has just the one defeat to his name against Gervonta Davis in April 2023 when he lost by a seventh-round TKO.
