The highly anticipated return of Canelo Alvarez to the ring is very close. This weekend, Canelo will face Mexican compatriot Jaime Munguia at the T-Mobile Arena.

While everyone wanted Canelo’s opponent to be David Benavidez, most boxing fans will still be tuning in. Alvarez demands that type of attention, and Munguia (43-0) is no slouch and always provides entertaining fights.

Canelo Alvarez predicts win by KO vs Jaime Munguia

Despite the level of Munguia, Canelo is extremely confident that he’ll earn a stoppage on Saturday night.

I love [looking for knockouts]. Ultimately winning by knockout is always beautiful. And I think that before the 8th round I’ll end it by knockout.

Alvarez also said that it doesn’t matter whether Munguia is younger, and that “Canelo in the end is different“.

Munguia is yet to lose in any fight, but he has been prone to take punishment due to what many consider to be poor defense. Sergiy Derevyanchenko did a lot of damage in their June 2023 fight, as did Gabe Rosado in late 2021.

Canelo is a completely different animal, so Munguia will have to avoid shots at a higher rate than he usually does.
