All boxing fans want to see Canelo Alvarez fight against challenging opponents. After Ryder, it will be Jermell Charlo‘s turn, a fighter who shouldn’t present much of fight.
Then, with the Bivol rematch seemingly far away, there emerged a fighter that caught the attention of most fans. That is none other than David Benavidez, a fighter who has what it takes to beat Canelo. However, in recent weeks interest seemed to cool off.
However, in the last few hours, things have taken an unexpected turn and could result in an agreement that would be a bombshell for the boxing world, and that would surely be one of the biggest fights of the year.
This has been confirmed by Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza, an authoritative and informed figure who shared some words with K.O. Artist Sports that should get fans excited.
“I think we’re closer to that possibility today than we were a couple of months ago,” he said. Espinoza believes that Canelo “is not a guy who shies away from challenges”.
He also added that the contract signed with PBC would not be a problem: “There is a lot of flexibility in that agreement, nothing is written in stone. Things can change. I don’t want to put words in Canelo‘s mouth, but the motivation clearly seems to be the fact that there are a lot of appetizing fights, really interesting.
“That’s why he decided to go for several fights with the company and not just for one. It’s easier for marketing. And whether it’s Jermell, Jermall, Benavidez, Andrade or Spence, they’re all great fights. And that was the appeal in signing for more than one fight.”
