Thursday Night Football was never expected to be much of a showdown. The Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders came into it at 5-8, with both teams starting backup quarterbacks and effectively out of the playoff race.
The Raiders were on a three-game losing streak. The Chargers had lost four of their last five. That led many to believe the game would at the very least be competitive and close. That was incorrect logic.

Raiders destroy Chargers in first half of TNF
In a stunning first half performance, the Chargers went into the break down by 42 points. The defense was consistently put into tough field position due to turnovers, as the Chargers could not hold on to the ball; they fumbled four times and lost three of them. Las Vegas turned those three turnovers into 21 points.
Regardless of the fumbles, the Chargers defense couldn’t stop the Raiders offense out of the gate. Las Vegas’ first offensive drive went for 12 plays, 68 yards and a score. The Raiders had scored zero points against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14.
While the Chargers defense struggled, the offense failed to score a single point.
Fans and football analysts alike couldn’t believe how poorly the Chargers played, with essentially everyone calling for head coach Brandon Staley to be fired. After this performance, Staley could be gone as soon as Friday morning.
