The upcoming visit of the Super Bowl-champion Kansas City Chiefs to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on Friday is sparking some tension that isn’t typically felt at championship celebrations at the White House.
Just a few weeks ago, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made some controversial comments about President Joe Biden and other Catholic leaders, criticizing them for “pushing dangerous gender ideologies onto the youth of America.” This seemed to be in reference to transgender rights. During his commencement address at Benedictine College, Butker didn’t hold back, taking swipes at LGBTQ individuals, calling Pride Month a “deadly sin,” and expressing disapproval of diversity and equity initiatives.

He also suggested that women find more fulfillment from getting married and having children than from their careers, saying, “I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.”
Butker, who is also Catholic, went on to say, “How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.” He also praised his wife, Isabelle, stating that her life truly began when she embraced her role as a wife and mother.

Kelce’s in, but sans Taylor Swift
Meanwhile, Travis Kelce appears to be attending the Chiefs’ White House party solo. Kansas City posted a video of him boarding a bus to 1600 Penn Ave. – no Taylor Swift in sight. Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and the rest of the 2023 Super Bowl champions -including controversial young receiver Rashee Rice, despite his problems with the law- will be honored by Joe Biden later Friday afternoon. Many wondered if Kelce’s famous girlfriend would join him.
Swift is on a brief break from her “Eras” tour, and White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre mentioned that Swifties in the building were hoping to see her, but she surely won’t attend the ceremony.
