There is a lot of uncertainty coming into the new NFL season for the Washington Commanders as they are banking their future on second-year quarterback Sam Howell.
With Carson Wentz having left the team, he is now in a position of importance that nobody expected at this stage of his career.
Howell appeared in one game during his rookie year, finishing with 169 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
The good news for the Commanders is that people have already been very impressed with what Howell has shown during the 2023 preseason.
They are not getting their competitive campaign underway until September 10 but there is a belief that Howell could become a very prominent player in the NFL this season.
Howell excelled during their preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. He led the squad with 19 completions out of 25 attempts for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
More importantly, the Commanders ended the Ravens‘ 24-game preseason win streak via a Joey Slye field goal, 29-28.
Prescott dragged into Howell discussion
That has led fans to big up Howell whilst also taking aim at the Dallas Cowboys, in particular Dak Prescott.
“Cowboys fans better watch out for Sam Howell this season! Looking like the pinche grim reaper!”, one fan said.
“Howell already own the cowboys sadly,” another said, whilst one fan said: “It’s funny seeing these Cowboys fans laugh at Sam Howell being our starter like he ain’t beat them 1 and Dak ain’t take them nowhere yet 2. Regular season ahh team.”
It wasn’t just Prescott that was getting dragged into the discussion, another fan said: “Howell look better than Carr, Dak, and Cousin right now.”
