Conor McGregor has been enjoying his downtime as he waits to make his long-awaited UFC return, with no sign of his exile ending anytime soon.

The 35-year-old has become an A-list celebrity as a result of his successful career in MMA, as proven with his role in a new reboot of the Road House movie.

McGregor has been promoting the release of the film in the United States and he did not miss an opportunity to celebrate with a few drinks at a local bar to watch the UFC 299 event on Saturday.

The Irishman mingled with fans at a venue in Austin, Texas and sipped from a glass of his Proper 12 whiskey. He has already made plans to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 17 with “a lot of partying” on the cards.

While there is nothing wrong with the Irish fighter indulging in alcohol, it has left some to question when his return to the Octagon will actually materialize.

McGregor has not fought in the UFC since July 2021, when he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier. He has confidently asserted that his anticipated return bout will be against Michael Chandler to close out International Fight Week.

“I’m hoping to get it. You can tell Hunter [Campbell], your man, that you know to start to get the ball rolling,” he said. “I’ve got this workload here, a lot of press, a lot of partying at St Patrick’s [Day].

He has also revealed his plans to face Nate Diaz in a triology in September after facing Chandler on July 29. McGregor famously lost to Diaz in March 2016 but won the rematch in a five-round thriller five months later.

However, UFC president Dana White has already ruled out McGregor returning to action in the summer against Chandler, recently saying: “Yeah, I’m not doing that fight.”

McGregor wants answers

McGregor hosted a Q&A on Instagram and told his 47 million followers that he looks to beat Chandler and settle his rematch with Diaz.

“I wish for this on Mexican Independence Day in the sphere. Chandler June. Diaz September. I have let this be known,” he posted.

On his next fight, he said: “Still holding hope for June 29. Lack of action on it, however, is now causing lack of enthusiasm. I need a decision soon.

“I am the most tested athlete under this new regime. Yet no date to fight. The game is a bit lacklustre also at present, which isn’t helping. I hope these next few cards pop and I get a date. Eliminate distractions and begin real work towards it.”
