The Dallas Cowboys, one of the most popular teams in the NFL, haven’t known what it’s like to reach the championship game since the 1995 season when they won Super Bowl XXX, 28 years ago!

Year after year fans of America’s team dream of seeing their Cowboys fighting to win the Super Bowl, but the truth is that since that year, with one of the best offenses in league history with Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irving, the Cowboys have not even made it to the National Conference Championship Game.

But this year the team looks different, with a roster that boasts a well-balanced offense and defense, so the word “Super Bowl” is all you hear in the hallways of the Cowboys’ facility.

Cowboys open the 2023 season against the Giants

Dallas opens the 2023 NFL season at MetLife Stadium against NFC East Division rivals the New York Giants, and quarterback Dak Prescott knows the season would be a failure for them, again, if the team doesn’t go all the way to the end of the season.

The Cowboys’ quarterback position is one of the most complicated positions on any team because of the popularity of the position and the history in that role, after the team has had two of its greatest legends as passers: Roger Staubach and Aikman himself.

Prescott was blamed for last season’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Game.

Dallas’ offensive changes

For this season, Dallas has a new offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, following the departure of Kellen Moore, who is now with the Los Angeles Chargers and has worked alongside Prescott since he arrived in the NFL.

In addition, head coach Mike McCarthy announced that he will be calling the plays on offense for the Cowboys, presumably for the good of the franchise.

In addition, Prescott will be without his trusty sidekick since being selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, running back Ezekiel Elliott, now with the Patriots, and it will be Tony Pollard, who totaled 1,007 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2022, who will assume the primary running back role for Dallas.

“I’m ready to carry the load for the offense,” Pollard said. “I’ve never counted how many touches or carries I have.

“But I’m physically and mentally ready for anything. More touches, more opportunities to help my team.”

Defense among the league’s best

In addition, Dallas will have one of the best defenses in the league this year with Micah Parsons, who many consider to be among the best defensive backs in the NFL.

In addition, the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year, corner Stephon Gilmore, will join Trevon Diggs in the Dallas secondary, along with safety Jayron Kearse.

The defensive line will feature Mazi Smith, DeMarcus Lawrence, Osa Odighizuwa and Jonathan Hankins, all led by the genius of Dan Quinn as defensive coordinator.
