His line of work for the Dallas Cowboys means that Dak Prescott is used to being the hero to save the NFL team from defeat or inspire them to victory. But his work with mental health away from the field might just be more important after he helped to save the life of one of the team’s fans.

The 30-year-old struggled to cope with the tragic death of his brother Jace, who passed away due to suicide in 2020. But he found a way to help others deal with the issues they were facing through his charity work through his foundation, Faith. Fight. Finish, which assists those unable to care for themselves.

And hearing that his words and inspirational messages helped guide Cowboys fan Eduardo Flores through a difficult period would have meant the world to him.

Flores made an emotional tribute to Prescott after being selected to announce the No. 5 pick in the NFL Draft, revealing the QB’s work to raise mental health awareness had saved his life.

“I wouldn’t be standing here without Dak Prescott,” he said. “So, I want to take this moment to raise mental health awareness.”

Flores, from Mexico, went through a dark period when his father passed away in 2016. He had inherited his love for the Cowboys from his dad and Prescott’s heartbreaking message helped bring him closer to the franchise, as well as giving him the strength to fight off his demons.

What it means to the Prescott family

Flores’ words came just a week after the Prescotts observed the four-year anniversary of Jace’s death. It was an emotional time for all concerned and Flores’ tribute to Dak certainly tugged on their heartstrings, with his brother Tad writing a post in honor of Dak.

“After Jace’s suicide, @dak pledge that his death would save the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people,” he wrote on Instagram. “So I’m not sure yall understand what it meant for me to hear this man recognize my baby brother in his still being with us.”

Dak and his brother Tad both paid tribute to their lost sibling, with the former posting an image of the trio together. The caption read: “We love you, Moose. You’re missed every day Broseph. 4 years doesn’t make sense.”
