A large portion of eyes across the United States were fixated on their TVs Saturday afternoon. What did they want to see? Deion Sanders‘ head coaching debut at the FBS level. And it went swimmingly.
At the helm of the Colorado Buffaloes, “Coach Prime” and his squad entered enemy territory for their first game of the season, taking on National Championship runner-up TCU on the road. With help from an electric Shedeur Sanders (Deion’s son), Colorado edged out TCU 45-42 in an instant classic.
As “Primetime” is prone to do, he talked his talk once the final whistle blew, taking aim at the people who have had doubts about his coaching ability at the top level.
“We told you we coming. We told you we coming. You thought we was joking, but guess what? We keep receipts.”
Once the game was over, Sanders had a field day at the postgame press conference. When asked a question by one specific journalist, Sanders recalled a skeptical article written by said journalist and gave him a hard time for it.
“Do you believe now?! I read through that bulljunk you wrote. I sifted through all that. Do you believe? You don’t believe. Next question.”
A chance for a hot start
Colorado came into the 2023 season unranked, but they’ve already taken down the 17th-ranked team.
Next week they will face off against former Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, who is leading the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska lost their opening game against Minnesota in heartbreaking fashion.
