The Colorado Buffaloes Football program suffered their first loss of the season against the Oregon State Ducks last Saturday. It was a painful 42-6 blowout that had a specific absence on their side: multi talented star and Heisman prospect Travis Hunter. Coach Deion Sanders has repeatedly stated he has both Travis and son Shedeur Sanders as two of the best players in the league. Hunter picked up an injury from which recovery will take some time but that didn’t stop him from an urgency to play alongside his teammates next weekend. The Buffaloes are playing the USC Trojans next Saturday, who are already 4-0 and have presented themselves as a threat against all competition. During a recent talk with his players, Coach Prime wanted to highlight Travis Hunter’s competitive spirit while also trying to teach him a lesson.

Travis Hunter’s text exchange with Coach Prime

During this talk with the rest of the team, Coach Prime wanted to let his players know he understands how hurt they all are after this blowout defeat. As an example of this frustration, he used a text exchange he had with Hunter. Currently, Travis is recovering at home but he told his coach he wanted to play next weekend and he isn’t taking no for an answer. Sanders responded by revealin what he responded in this exchange: “No. You ain’t ready, and I care about you more than I care about this game. You’re gonna change the game of football one day, when you’re healthy and ready. Your future is brighter than mine ever will be and ever was. Relax and get healthy, I love you son.”

Travis Hunter has been complely ruled out of the game against the Trojans that have reigning Heisman trophy winner and top contender Caleb Williams on their roster. Currently, the USC Trojans are also the No. 8 ranked team in the country.Last Saturday’s loss against Oregon served as a great reminder for all Colorado Buffaloes players that they are living a complicated reality. Not having Travis Hunter on their team is hurting them and they are likely going to struggle without him next Saturday. But Coach Prime also feels this is a great opportunity for the rest of his players to show what they are made of without their best player ont he field. Regardless of what happens next Saturday, people are still going to watch the Buffaloes going against one of the best college football programs in the country.
