No stranger to controversy, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has ignited flames with Philadelphia 76ers‘ Joel Embiid as the center prepares for the NBA season.
Embiid won the MVP title last season and is now in training camp for the new Sixers season
Now, Sanders has seemingly taken a jab at Embiid. It looks to stem from the fact that Embiid opted to sit out a March 28 game against the Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokic at Ball Arena with the MVP race nearing its conclusion
“A lot of folks duck that smoke right now,” Sanders said in a video that was posted on social media.
“They want to be Tarzan on paper. Don’t sell me the game that when I turn on the TV, this is what I’m gonna get.
“Then I turn on the TV, and I don’t get that. I don’t like that.
“If Embiid is playing the Joker [Jokic], I want to see Embiid vs. the Joker. I love the matchup. I want to see it. That’s why I stayed up.
“If somebody else is on the Joker, I ain’t got time for that. I’ll watch the BET Awards.”
Embiid’s stats
Joel Embiid had a phenomenal 2022-23 season, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 54-28 record and winning the NBA MVP award.
He averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, all while shooting 54.8% from the field and 37.1% from three-point range.
Embiid’s scoring average was the highest in the NBA since Michael Jordan in 1986-87, and he also led the league in free throws made and attempted.
He was also named to the All-NBA First Team and the All-Defensive Second Team.
Embiid’s 2022-23 stats are truly remarkable, and they rank him among the greatest centers in NBA history.
